The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has decided to encourage development of green' airports.

Hyderabad: In anticipation of the delay that is likely to be caused by the movement of VIPs and VVIPs at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) and the traffic restrictions imposed by the police as part of the arrangements for the inauguration of the Hyderabad Metro Rail and the dinner to be hosted by the Central Government at the Falaknuma Palace, passengers travelling by air should make sure that they leave well ahead of time in order to catch their scheduled flights.

Traffic restrictions will be imposed from 3 pm to 8 pm, in a phased manner, in the Hitec City area. The police have asked the people to opt for alternate routes today. Restrictions have been imposed on the route from Miyapur to Kondapur, so commuters should take the Chandanagar-Gulmo-har Park Junction-HCU route, or use the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near the IT corridor. The police may not allow general vehicles on the ORR between 6 pm and 8 pm, so passengers should take alternate routes to reach the RGIA.

Passengers from the East and South Zones of the city should be aware that traffic restrictions will be imposed from 5 pm to 11 pm at Falaknuma Road, Chandra-yangutta, Srisailam Highway near Peelidargh and Barkas, the road from Himmathpura to Falaknuma, and the Enginebowli route.

The Traffic Police caution people that there may be traffic jams on alternate routes due to traffic diversion. “As per the rules, domestic air passengers should report two hours before the time of departure, and international passengers should report three hours before. To avoid any inconvenience, air passengers should be there three to five hours before their flights,” said officers.

Meanwhile, GMR is making arrangements at the airport for passengers arriving in city from various destinations.
