HYDERABAD: While the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh and the Balapur Ganesh idols were the centre of attraction at the Hussainsagar, a group of police personnel who joined the devotees in dancing to the music drew much attention. The videos are now trending on social media.

The policemen broke out into a dance after the Bada Ganesh was immersed at about 1:30 p.m.

Separately, several cops including women were seen tapping their feet to the ‘teen maar’ beats in the processions across the city.

Central zone DCP M. Venkateshwarlu said that was the best way to celebrate, with the organisers and devotees working in constant cooperation.

He said that the police had worked through the night to help the organisers of the Bada Ganesh pandal dismantle the ceiling and supports, shift the idol onto the truck and secure it safely, make sure the journey to the Hussainsagar was without incident amid the milling crowd, transfer the idol to the crane and immerse it.

Everything went as planned and that called for the celebration Venkateshwarlu said.

Leading the ‘dancing cops’ group was Saifabad ACP R. Sanjay Kumar. He told Deccan Chronicle that the organisers and devotees in large numbers had cooperated in completing the immersion peacefully and successfully.

“It was a celebration for them and for us as well, as our efforts have yielded results. To express our gratitude to all of them, we joined them in dance,” he said.
