Warangal: Denied land passbook, farmer tries to end life

Warangal: A farmer attempted suicide after officials failed to rectify a mistake caused in the land record updation programme taken up by the government.
The farmer, Mr Vanga Rayakomuru, made repeated visits to the revenue offices and appealed to the officers to rectify the mistake and record his land under his name but they allegedly paid no heed.
Vexed, the farmer doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze in front of his house in Chintakunta Ramaiahpally, Chityala mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

According to the village sarpanch, M. Madhuvamshi Krishna, Rayakomuru owns two acres and 25 guntas of land under Survey No. 225/b which he had been tilling for many years. He applied for his land to be recorded under the state government's land record updation programme. The revenue officials handed him a passbook for 20 guntas of land under Survey No. 225/a. His original land was recorded under some other person's name.
He appealed to the revenue officials to rectify this mistake and even approached the RDO regarding this issue.
“The revenue officials failed to rectify this issue even after repeated appeals. Rayakomuru is physically challenged but the officials troubled him a lot without any sympathy. That is why he attempted suicide due to depression. The officials responsible for the poor farmer’s plight must be punished,” Mr Krishna said.
