Rahul Gandhi starts 4-day visit

WAYANAD: Former Congress national president Rahul Gandhi started the second phase of his four-day visit to the flood-hit regions of Mananthavadi legislative constituency in Wayanad district, on Tuesday afternoon.

He landed at the Kannur International Airport by 12 noon and reached the Holly Face Auditorium, Makkiyad near Mananthavadi in the afternoon.  Addressing the inmates Mr Gandhi said that he would be with them till they get their due compensation and ensure the means of living. “We have no government in the state and we neither rule at the Centre,” he said, adding that he had already conveyed the plight of people and also demanded immediate relief measures to them. “I have talked to Prime Minister and Chief Minister after the catastrophe,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by Congress leaders Mukul Vasnik, K.C. Venugopal, K.C. Rosakkutti, DCC president I.C. Balakrishnan among others. Rahul Gandhi also visited St Thomas Church Audito-rium at Thalappuzha, Valad, Pandikkadavu and Cherupuzha.

Some of the women cried while unraveling their woes to Rahul Gandhi.  His programmes ended late in the evening. Rahul Gandhi is staying for the day at the Forest Guest House, Mananthavadi.

On Wednesday he would stay at Kalpetta and will leave for Kozhikode and Malappuram district on Thursday.
