Vijayawada: The Congress will stage protests against petrol and diesel prices from July 7 to 17 in various forms.
Former Kerala chief minister and AP Congress in-charge Oommen Chandy said that the Union Government with its irrational hikes of fuel prices was adding to the financial burden of people.
Speaking at the AP Congress political affairs committee meeting here on Monday, Chandy pointed out that helping people during the Corona crisis is the responsibility of the Centre but the BJP government is shying away from the responsibility and increasing petrol, diesel, gas and edible oil prices. He announced that they would conduct a series of protests in various forms from July 7 to 17 demanding rollback of prices.
APCC president Dr. Sailajnath alleged that the BJP-led Union Government and YSRC government in Ap had both failed to contain coronavirus. He claimed that Congress governments had earlier protected dalits but the present government has remained silent despite an increase in atrocities against them. He alleged that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had surrendered himself to Prime Minister Narendra Modi fearing the court cases against him.
Later, Chandy distributed prizes to winners of essay writing competitions conducted by the Congress. APCC organising presidents Dr. N Thulasi Reddy and Sk Masthan Vali, former union ministers Chinta Mohan and JD Seelam and other leaders participated in the programme.
