BMTC bus falls off flyover, 12 passengers injured

According to sources, the accident took place after the bus suffered a technical snag and the driver was not able to control the bus.

Bengaluru: Passengers of a BMTC bus had a narrow escape on Wednesday morning after it fell off a flyover on West of Chord road in Rajajinagar. As many as 12 passengers, including four women, sustained injuries while other passengers were safe.

One of the women suffered fractures on her hand and is being treated at the intensive care unit while others are being treated for minor injuries at the K.C. General Hospital and Fortis Hospital in Malleswaram.

The police said that the bus (KA-01-FA-2309), attached to Sumanahalli depot, was going from Kaval Byrasandra towards Karnataka Housing Board. Around 10:45 am, when the bus reached the flyover it hit the side ramp and then the parapet, before falling down. Both driver and conductor sustained injuries in the accident.

According to sources, the accident took place after the bus suffered a technical snag and the driver was not able to control the bus, though it was moving at a slow pace. BMTC has begun investigation.

Malleswaram traffic police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured passengers to hospitals and also cleared the traffic. Vehicles were diverted through two alternative roads. The police had to use a crane to lift the bus and tow it away to clear the traffic on the flyover. The police have registered a case and begun investigation.
