PM Modi to inaugurate DefExpo 2018

The event being organised by the Defence Ministry, will be held at Thiruvidanthai in Kancheepuram district on April 11.

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the DefExpo 2018, to be held for the first time, to showcase India's defence manufacturing capabilities to the world. The event being organised by the Defence Ministry, will be held at Thiruvidanthai in Kancheepuram district on April 11.

While showcasing strengths of India's substantial public sector, the expo will also uncover India's growing private industry and spreading MSME base for components and sub-systems. About 42 countries have already confirmed their participation and many are expected to take part. The countries which have confirmed to take part include ,major defence manufacturing nations like USA, UK, Russia, France, Israel, Korea, Sweden, among others.

Sources said the Prime Minister would land in Chennai by a special aircraft on April 11 and reach the venue by helicopter. He is likely to return to the capital the same day.

The Defexpo will conclude on April 14. Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would also be present at the inauguration.
