Will work with Customs to curb crime: DGP M Mahendar Reddy

The DGP said the Customs department was playing a vital role in guarding the economic frontiers.

Hyderabad: With several common goals and objectives, the state police and the Customs department can work together and achieve the goal of curbing crime, said Director-General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy during the International Customs Day celebrations held in the city on Monday.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Mahendar Reddy said that the Customs department was playing a vital role in guarding the economic frontiers. The police and Customs have common goals and objectives where both the departments enforce several similar laws, he said.

“The police and Customs department can work together and achieve the fostering sustainability for ‘People, Prosperity and the Planet’,” said the DGP.
Hyderabad Customs Principal Commissioner J.S. Chandra Shekar said that the Customs department contributes to 6 per cent of the country’s revenue.

“A great challenge for the Customs department is to curb the illegal activities and our personnel are performing the duties in a better way,” he said.
