London-style traffic signal at Khairatabad

The GHMC has procured the advanced traffic signal system at a cost of Rs 12 lakh and it would function in a couple of days.

According to the corporation officials, the advanced system has been inspired from London, and would be first installed at Khairatabad junction, which includes Panjagutta, Khairatabad flyover and Raj Bhavan road traffic signals.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will get its first sophisticated cantilever traffic signal that is aligned with the stop line at the Khairatabad junction. The traffic signal will even display the pedestrian crossing time which will be visible from 800 metres to commuters. The GHMC has procured the advanced traffic signal system at a cost of Rs 12 lakh and it would function in a couple of days.

According to the corporation officials, the advanced system has been inspired from London, and would be first installed at Khairatabad junction, which includes Panjagutta, Khairatabad flyover and Raj Bhavan road traffic signals. The four cantilever signals will have 12 poles leading to bylanes of Khai-ratabad junction. Earlier, the GHMC had come up with a 265 feet long vertical garden, which displays ‘I Love Hyderabad’, along with a water fountain. A major aspect of the junction beautification here are the new LED lights on Khairatabad flyover. A senior GHMC official  said they have completed junction beautification works with a cost of over `65 lakh that too in a short span of 40 days.

“For LED lighting, pedestrian project and water fountain, we have spent `40 lakh while installation of vertical garden had cost `25 lakh. The stripped lighting cost `3 lakh. With the completion of beautification works, the junction has become 100 per cent pedestrian friendly,” he added.
