Second local Omicron case found in Hyderabad

This is a second such case of local transmission in the state, after a doctor at a cancer hospital was infected by the Omicron variant

Hyderabad: The state health department on Sunday said a second case of local transmission of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus had been confirmed. The patient was infected by an international traveller.

This is a second such case of local transmission in the state, after a doctor at a cancer hospital was infected by the Omicron variant.

Meanwhile, two individuals who had recently travelled from non-at-risk countries have tested positive for Omicron on Sunday, taking the total tally of Omicron cases in the state to 44. Results for 16 tests are still awaited.

With regard to Covid-19, the health department conducted only 20,576 tests and found 109 new cases of Covid-19. The department reported one more death from the disease. The GHMC area reported 69 cases, and the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district reported 10 new cases.

The department said there were 3,417 persons listed as active cases. Of them, 1,327 persons were said to be receiving treatment in hospitals.
