BENGALURU: Various theories are doing rounds in connection with breaching of Hulimavu tank bund which inundated the entire locality and threw the thousands of residents life out of gear.

It is said that, some of the residents of the apartments surrounding the lake had complained to the local powerful BJP leader in BBMP about the foul smell emanating from the lake.

The over enthusiastic leader without consulting anyone had said to be asked his men to somehow get rid of the foul smell. They had tried to brake the tank bund a little bit so that the water which goes will take away the things which are causing the foul smell.

This turned to be a misadventure as the significant portion of the tank bund caved in resulting in floods.

The BJP leader responsible for this is said to have not visited the affected area fearing the backlash. However, he showed up when the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa visited the spot. However, no official confirmation is given to this theory by the cops.

Another theory is of misjudgment by the BWSSB engineer. The engineer said to have instructed the home guards to break the small bit of tank bund as he thought it will reduce the water level. However, this also might have turned out to be disaster.

According to sources, over enthusiasm of a local BJP leader and hastiness to get the work done seems to have caused the disaster. However, the cops remained tight lipped about the whole incident.
