Thiruvananthapuram: Janata Dal (Secular) leader K. Krishnankutty will be sworn in water resources minister here on Tuesday.

Governor P Sathasivam will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the 74-year-old leader at the swearing-in ceremony to be held at Raj Bhavan auditorium at 5 pm.

Earlier in the day, Mathew T. Thomas, accompanied by his wife Achamma Alex, went to Cliff House and submitted his resignation to chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Later Krishnankutty met Mathew T Thomas at the guest house and held a closed door meeting. The two leaders denied internal problems in the party or possibility of a split following the change of minister.

With Krishnankutty becoming a minister the post of state president of JD(S) has fallen vacant. Already a section of party workers are rooting for Mathew T. Thomas as state chief.

The final decision will be taken by the central leadership in consultation with the state committee.
