Action a reminder: Sreemathy on Sasi

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM central committee member P.K. Sreemathy, MP, who was one of the members of the inquiry commission that probed the complaint of woman DYFI leader, said the words used by P.K. Sasi, MLA, against the complainant could not be approved in any way.

She told media persons after the state committee meeting that the action should serve as a reminder to everyone to maintain decorum while speaking with women.  “Only CPM can take such stringent action on complaints of harassment against wom-en. No other party can claim about such disciplinary action,” she added.

Sreemathy said the person who is facing allegations was a top leader, holding a responsible position in the party. Similarly the district DYFI leader is also working with the party.

The DYFI leader had alleged that she faced mental harassment following which the probe was carried out effectively. It was found that the MLA had spoken in a manner which did not behove a senior leader of the party. The usages in the telephonic conversation that the legislator had with the DYFI leader cannot be approved of in any manner. The conversation was not appropriate, the MP said.

Sreemathy said the incident had caused mental trauma to the complainant and she wanted the matter to be looked into by the party. The action was not decided all of a sudden. A detailed probe was conducted, statements of all parties concerned were taken.

On whether the complaint should be dealt with only at the party’s organisational level, Sreemathy said the complainant was satisfied with party action. “She has full confidence in party.”

The CPM central committee leader said Sasi had served the party for 45 years without any complaint. Now inquiry has found him guilty. But that does not mean he should banned for life.
