Vijayawada: Ministers take part in Anti Obesity Walk

Kamineni to include obesity programmes in state hospitals.

Vijayawada: Several health organisations organised various programmes in the city marking the Anti Obesity Day (AOD) on Sunday. Anti Obesity Day walk and awareness programmes on maintenance of health were organised in the city. Ministers Dr Kamineni Srinivas, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, and TD leader Devineni Avinash and a corporator Jasti Sambasiva Rao participated in the Anti Obesity Walk, stretching to 3 km, to and from Indira Gandhi stadium to Raghaviah Park. LivLife Hospitals and its associated groups organised the walk and an awareness campaign.

Mr Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, minister for water resources, emphasised the importance of healthy food choices and exercise for a healthy life. He said that the government is ready to provide support to such events and initiatives. Minister Dr Srinivas Kamineni pledged support to address and include programmes relating to obesity in various hospitals and lauded the organisers for their efforts. Dr Dukkipati Nandakishore, MD, Livlife Hospitals, asserted the importance of managing weight, factors leading to obesity during childhood and the need for awareness on obesity.
