Hyderabad: The thirsty IT corridor has begun getting water on alternate days with the advent of the Krishna Phase-III project. Even supply by the board’s tankers has improved. The supply of Krishna water began on June 2. The Madhapur section of the Water Board that covers a large area geographically has just 10,600 connections. It covers Madhapur, Kond-apur and surrounding colonies that fall under two municipal divisions. Before the Madhapur section got Krishna water, officials used to draw Singur/Godavari water from the Lingampally reservoir and supply 6 million gallons per day of water. This was not sufficient for the domestic, commercial and IT industrial connections. Given the high demand and meagre supply, the Water Board was supplying water once in three days for periods ranging from half-an-hour to one hour.
Mr G.R. Krishna, a Kondapur resident, said the Water Board used to supply water through tankers, with a waiting period of four days. “Since 15 days, the board is supplying tankers the same day,” he said. Residents in the IT corridor used to book 1,200 tankers, each carrying 5,000 or 10,000 litres of water. Water Board officials said the demand had fallen to 300 per day as customers were getting water on alternate days.
Board Madhapur section manager M. Prabhakar said that Krishna Phase-III was supplying 7.5 mgd, which was sufficient enough for the region. “We have started providing double connections to apartments and colonies. We have also cleared all pending applications for water connections.” He said the projects wing was set to begin pipeline works in areas that are currently not connected. up at un-served areas.
The project including building new reservoirs had been taken up at a cost of '290 crore that was being given by Hudco. He said 95 km of new pipelines needed to be laid, of which work on 55 km had been completed. “Once the project is complete, areas like Raghavendra Colony, Raja Rajeswari Nagar and Golden Tulip will have water connections,” he said, With the completion of reservoirs and overhead tanks at Madhapur, Kondapur, Miyapur, Tellapur, the Water Board can supply water daily to the IT corridor. Madhapur will get one more reservoir with a capacity of 5 million gallons per day.
