Bengaluru: Karnataka Vishwakarma Samaja president and Congress leader K.P. Nanjundi joined the BJP here on Monday in the presence of state BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa. Welcoming him to the party, Yeddyurappa said Nanjundi will soon be given a responsibility at the state level which will help strengthen the party.

“Recently I went to the residence of  Nanjundi and persuaded him to join the party. Since Nanjundi is a noted leader of the Vishwakarma community with good organising skills, his entry into the BJP will provide us more strength. Many more leaders of the OBC communities are keen on joining the BJP”, Yeddyurappa said. After taking the primary membership of the BJP, Nanjundi said, “I worked for the Congress for 16 years and wasted my precious time in that party. I now feel  sad about myself and why I did not join the BJP much before joining the Congress. My well-wishers and seers advised me not to join the Congress, but I took a hasty decision in my younger days,” he disclosed.

He criticized Chief Minister Siddaramiah for ignoring him and said, “Siddaramaiah has ditched me and my community by not recognizing our service to the Congress. During the Chamundeshari constituency by-election, he won because of our community votes but he does not have even the courtesy to give credit to the community.” Union Ministers Ananth Kumar and D.V. Sadananda Gowda and state leaders were present on the occasion.
