Kurnool: With the rising number of covid cases in Nandyal division, the district hospital has ramped up its bed capacity with an additional 50 beds through German Hangars.

The dashboard showed a total of 70 beds in the hospital, of which 10 were occupied by ICU patients and another 10 by patients on ventilators. The remaining 50 oxygenated beds are in general wards. But this capacity was inadequate considering the caseload coming from rural areas and Nandyal town, said district medical and health officer Dr. Rama Giddaiah.

He said that in order to increase the bed-availability, authorities have completed construction of German Hangar beds. At least 100 beds would be made available at the makeshift site, which has all facilities like provision for oxygen connections, patient beds, and other paraphernalia, he said.

To extend facilities, the district administration has arranged Germany technology-based temporary sheds with a capacity of 250-bed strength at four different places in the district. These newly arranged bed facilities were handed over to the respective hospitals on Thursday, R&B superintendent engineer Jayarami Reddy said.

He said that 100-bed strength high-technology sheds were also arranged in Kurnool GGH, 50 at Kurnool Tidco Covid care centre, 50 were coming up in Nandyal government district hospital and another 50 were available at Nandyal Tidco Covid care centre. These were all ready to treat Covid patients at sheds, he stated.

Kurnool GGH superintendent Dr. Narendranath Reddy said that the newly-arranged beds will be used from Friday onwards based on demand. Nearly 1,300 beds, including new ones, in the Kurnool GGH and almost all beds have oxygen supply facility to Covid patients, he added.

On Thursday, district joint collector (development) Manajeer Jilani Samul visited the hospital and observed the German Technology sheds. He told officials of the hospital and senior doctors to use oxygen carefully. He asked about the availability of remdesvir, oxygen, and other needs.
