Bengaluru: On the third anniversary of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, K.C. Venugopal on Friday launched a searing attack on the government on various issues like farmer suicides, unemployment,  demonetisation, corruption and party slogans.

Addressing a joint press conference here with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah,  Venugopal charged that the sad situation is reflected in farmer suicides and rising attacks on dalits and minorities.

“With a lot of fanfare, Fasal Bima Yojana was launched but the rules made for this scheme are so complicated that the selected insurance companies have been the biggest beneficiaries rather than farmers. Even worse, the farmer suicide rate stands at 35 farmers every day,” he contended.

According to him, the government has not come out with any new schemes other than coining slogans. “No government in history has given so many slogans. No government has spent so much on publicity since coming to power. But all their talk is turning into hoax and the Bharatiya Janata Party is turning into Bharatiya Jhoot Party,” he quipped.

Venugopal also hit out at demonetisation, saying the government still had not come out with data about how much black money was unearthed after the ban on old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

“The country still has to know how much black money was unearthed. Almost eight months after demonetisation, the union government has still not given the information. People went through all the difficulty in the hope that black money will be eradicated,” he remarked.

He also wondered angrily why the Union government has not taken any steps to appoint the Lokpal?" Venugopal criticised claims about higher GDP growth wondering if it has translated into jobs or wealth creation? We are seeing in rural India disposable incomes going down. Unfortunately, the country is becoming a victim of hyperbole and sloganeering,” he added.

While  attacking the Modi government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said “they had promised achche din (good days). I don’t know for whom achche din has come after three years.”
