Hyderabad: As part of a nationwide protest programme, the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatam, a frontal organisation of the Congress, organised a day-long satyagraha at Gandhi Bhavan in support of Rahul Gandhi here on Thursday.

Condemning the BJP disqualifying Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha, Sanghatam’s national president Meenakshi Natrajan and several PCC leaders called upon the party men to put up a united fight against the BJP.

She said that it was only because Rahul Gandhi had questioned the way the Modi government was handing over public assets to select businessmen that the Centre was harassing him.

Referring to BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s claims of their support for the unemployed youth in the State, former MP, V. Hanumantha Rao questioned as to why the BJP, which came to power with the promise of providing two crore jobs every year had failed to do so.

R. Siddeshwar, who organised the event, said that they would continue to fight against the BJP excesses.

Nalgonda MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy felt that the BJP tried to seize some initiative by raking up the OBC issue. “The BJP which was unable to digest the way Rahul Gandhi nailed the government has indulged in vendetta politics by disqualifying him,” he said.
