Recruitment scam: Six Anna varsity profs booked on graft charges
They were booked under provisions of prevention of corruption act along with criminal conspiracy, cheating etc.
Chennai: Anna University’s former vice-chancellor M.Rajaram and six professors of the university were booked in the recruitment scam by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption as all the six were allegedly paid bribe to the former vice-chancellor and selection panel ranging from Rs.25 lakh to Rs.40 lakh to get jobs in the university.
The case details revealed that Jayashree, assistant professor, department of bio medical engineering, Helen Kalavathi, assistant professor, department of chemical engineering, Balamurugan, assistant professor, department of electronic engineering, Mandhakini, assistant professor, department of material science (Nano science), V.Jayalakshmi, professor, department of electronic and communication engineering, M. Arivanandham, associated professor, department of material science (Nano science) were named as accused in the FIR. All are the faculty members of Anna University, Chennai.
DVAC also says all other members of the selection committee headed by Rajaram, are also accused of accepting illegal gratification for recruiting the six candidates during the period between the year May 2013 to May 2016.

During the period a total of 605 people applied for post of faculty members. All the six candidates were ineligible but appointed by flouting the norms of AICTE and UGC, after receiving bribe, DVAC said adding that by recruiting ineligible candidates, the selection committee had denied chance for qualified candidates.
