Vijayawada: Poor sanitation, eroded roads in Currencynagar

Vijayawada: Poor sanitation and damaged roads have become a big problem for the residents of Currencynagar Colony.

This colony borders Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and Ramavarappadu panchayat, and its present woes can be attr-ibuted to the negligence of civic bodies.

The colony, which is centrally located at Ramava-rappadu Ring, is having a lot of problems with roads. Majority of roads are ‘kaccha’ roads and some other roads maintained by VMC were damaged in recent times.

“Being in the capital city, our colony still doesn't have ‘pukka’ roads. Our vehicles are getting damaged while traveling on the bumpy  roads. The authorities  should make developing our colony, a priority,” says Bhagava-nnarayana, a colony resident.

Vacant lands filled with water hyacinth (a weed) and other aquatic plants, are creating worries for the colony residents.

“Colony residents are concerned about the mosquitoes and poisonous snakes coming out of water stagnated at vacant lands in the colony. The stretches of empty lands between apartments are also getting choked by the garbage thrown by the residents. The VMC sho-uld strictly implement dustbin usage and levy fines on those who dump garbage on roads and vacant plots,” says Bom-mana Ramakrishna Rao, a retired employee and colony resident.

Huge traffic at Rama-varappadu ring had beco-me a big problem. Traffic diversions after connecting the inner ring road had made things worse. “Entering the colony at peak hours was a massive task. Huge traffic jams at Ramavarappadu and DR. NTR Health University centres are still an issue as we are getting stuck in traffic.” says M. Grace, a homemaker.

Colony residents requested the civic body to speed up underground drainage and other pending works in the colony.
