Nirmala Sitaraman calls upon women to join politics

The minister advised them to explore various sectors where their representation is relatively low to find a place in them.

Bhimavaram: Union minister of state for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitaraman called upon the women to join politics with the support from their family and kin. The minister interacted with the students from professional colleges belonged to Vishnu Educational Society here on Saturday.

Responding to their queries, the minister advised the women to take politics as a career if they were interested. She also advised them to explore various sectors where their representation is relatively low to find a place in them In a separate development.

The minister said that efforts were on to connect all the ports in the state through Sagar Mala scheme and added that as the AP is having a coastline of over 900 km distance, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was planning to develop ports and their connectivity in a big way.

Later, taking part in a bankers' meet, the minister felt the need on their part to play key role in implementation of various welfare schemes and developmental programmes.  

She said that under Mudra Loan Scheme initiated by the Centre, petty traders were being extended loans with less interest rate and added that each trader would be given loan ranging from a minimum of Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000. She said the move would help the petty traders not to fall victim in the hands of private moneylenders who charge high interest rate.

She said that skill development centres were being set up all over the country to train the young entrepreneurs to acquire skills besides encouraging them to set up industrial units. She also said that under Make in India, programme it would be very easy to set up industrial units.
