Kottayam: The civil war in Libya claimed the life of a Malayali nurse and her 18-month-old son on Friday evening. They were identified as Sunu Vipin, 29, wife of Vipin Kumar of  Thulasy Bhavan,  Kuravilangadu Veliyannur,  and their son Pranav Vipin. They were killed in a shell attack on the  apartment of the Zawiya Medical Centre at Zawiya where Vipin worked.

The attack occurred around 7.30 p.m. when  Vipin had gone outside the flat. His friends from Veliyannur, who were in Libya,  informed Vipin’s  family about the incident through phone.

Sunu had resigned her job as a nurse in the hospital in December 2015  after she failed to get her salary.  Vipin  also  was planning to resign and they were preparing to come back to Kerala by the middle of April.  Family sources said that Sunu would have returned much earlier if she had received the exit visa. Vipin  and Sunu,  native of Kondadu near Ramapuram,  were  married on August  25,  2012.   Vipin  took Sunu  with him  after three months of their marriage. The child was born in Libya and they had not so far visited their homes.

MPs  Jose K. Mani, P.K. Biju and M.B. Rajesh have taken steps to bring back the bodies  home. The bodies will be brought to the house of Vipin, where his father Damodaran Nair,  elder brother Thulaseedaran Nair and his wife Indulekha are present.
