Hyderabad: One person was killed and four others suffered injuries in an explosion at the Gulf Oil Corporation Limited (GOCL) in IDL Kukatpally area on Wednesday. Police have shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.

Kukatpally inspector B. Laxminarayana Reddy said the explosion took place in block number 46-C of the GOCL. E. Vasudeva Sharma, 62, a contract employee, was severely injured and died on the spot.

Sharma, a resident of Beerappaguda in Uppal, had retired from GOCL but rejoined on contract basis. Two others – Gorinkala Padma Rao, 60, of Miyapur, and Raju, 51, of Warasiguda, suffered severe burns and have been admitted to the ESI Hospital for treatment. Another two employees, M. Hari-kanth of Bowenpally and Naveen Kumar of Nagole, suffered minor injuries and are said to be out of danger.

A case has been registered.

Investigations are on to ascertain what caused the explosion, the inspector added.
