Committee to inspect Anna Centenary library and file report
On January 8, Wilson had brought to the notice of the court the non-compliance of various deficiencies.
Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the two-member committee, constituted by it, to visit Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram for verifying the factual position (as to whether the deficiencies noticed by the committee were rectified or not) and submit a report to the court.
Posting the matter to April 15, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M. M. Sundresh gave the directive while passing further interim orders on a PIL from S. T. Manonmani.
According to senior counsel P. Wilson, appearing for the petitioner,
the bench had on October 29, 2015, issued various directions based on
the report filed by the advocate commissioners (two-member committee) relating to the deficiencies it had noted in the library and also on the basis of
the memo filed by the petitioner.
On January 8, Wilson had brought to the notice of the court the non-compliance of various deficiencies and requested the court to initiate suo motu contempt proceedings against the authorities.
On that day, the bench had directed the authorities to file a compliance report within a month. Accordingly, when the case came up for hearing on Friday, the government filed its compliance report stating that all the directions will be complied with and sought more time. Then, the bench directed the committee to visit the library and submit its report.
