Basar IIIT students' protest bears fruit

The students ended their protest in the evening after officials through a letter announced that they were accepting their demands.

Basar police registered a case against assistant professor Ravi Varala under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidatin) and 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant) following the complaint lodged by administration officer Srihari of Basar IIIT.

NIRMAL: Tense situation prevailed on the Basar IIIT campus with nearly 5,000 students who refused to vacate their hostels without meeting their demands, staged a massive protest on Tuesday. The students ended their protest in the evening after officials through a letter announced that they were accepting their demands.   The authorities declared holidays for the institution from September 25, stopped power and water supply to the hostel and asked the mess staff not to serve food to the students.

Thousands of students, including girls with empty stomachs, staged a protest till evening. Among them, 10 girls had fainted during protests. In the evening, Board of Intermediate Secretary Dr A. Ashok held talks with the students and handed over a letter stating that they were accepting the demands of the students.
