Court grants bail to Kejriwal's ex-Principal Secy Rajendra Kumar

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's former Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar, who was arrested in a corruption case, was today granted bail by a Special court which said no purpose would be served by keeping him in jail as the case is based on documentary evidence.

However, the relief came with a warning that Kumar would neither try to contact any witness nor influence the ongoing probe in the case and the court asked him to furnish a personal bond of Rs one lakh.

"The accused is a resident of Delhi and has roots in the society. The accused is in custody for 23 days. No purpose will be served by keeping the accused behind bars," Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar said.

"Keeping in view the overall facts and circumstances,the accused is admitted to bail on furnishing a personal bond in the sum of Rs 1,00,000 with one surety of the like amount," the court said.

"The present case is admittedly based on documents. The accused had joined investigation as and when called by CBI and has also been interrogated in custody. Accused is a senior government servant.

"The allegation as to whether the company M/s Endeavour Systems Pvt Ltd was promoted at his behest or in what manner he was concerned with the same can only be analysed during the course of the trial.

"The CBI has also admittedly collected documents showing the impugned money trail. Once again, in what manner thepresent accused is connected with the same can only be analysed during the course of the trial," the judge observed.

Kumar, along with four others, was arrested by the CBI on July 4 in connection with the case of allegedly showing undue favours to a private company in award of government contracts worth over Rs 50 crore.
