Tirupati: Within 24 hours, the TTD Board made a U-turn on Monday and said that the jewellery of Lord Venkateswara will not be displayed. Board chairman Putta Sudhakar Yadav had on Sunday said in Tirupati that the jewels would be displayed on June 28.

The TTD board led by Mr Sudhakar Yadav on Monday verified the jewels at the Tirumala temple. “The jewels of the lord have never been taken outside the ‘Vendi Vakili’ and the Agama sastra clearly says that the jewels should not be displayed,” a source said.

Usually the accounting of the jewels takes at least 15 days, but the board members completed the exercise in half an hour. They verified the security system and safety of the jewels inside the temple.

Speaking to media, TTD board member Bonda Umamaheswar Rao said, “There is no chance of the jewellery going missing from inside the temple as alleged by (former chief priest) Ramana Deekshitulu and YSRC MP Vijaya Sai Reddy. We have completely examined the security system inside the temple. Each and every item of jewellery is recorded and kept safe.”
