Bengaluru: In a freak accident, a KSRTC bus being driven rashly jumped a traffic signal and crashed into a car killing one and leaving five other occupants of the car, including a three-year-old ailing child, injured.

The incident took place around 3.30 am at Navarang Signal in Rajaji Nagar on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old fabricator Ravi Kiran, a resident of Laggere.

Eyewitnesses blamed the KSRTC driver for not stopping the bus at a red signal. The bus (KA-27-F-0828) coming from Haveri and heading towards Majestic jumped the signal and hit the car which was heading towards KC General Hospital. Passersby rushed the victims to Fortis Hospital.

The police said that Ravi Kiran was accompanying his friend Gangadhar, whose son Sumanth had developed a health complication late in the night. They had booked a cab and were heading to the hospital. While Ravi Kiran sat beside the driver, Gangadhar sat in the back along with his wife Varalakshmi and ailing son Sumanth. When the cab reached the Navarang Signal, the bus crashed into the car, turning it upside down. Ravi Kiran died on the spot. The bus driver, Prakash Nayak, was arrested.
