Water crisis spreads in more Hyderabad colonies
Water supply problems are happening every alternate week in many areas while the supply timings are not maintained in under-served areas
Hyderabad: Water shortage troubles are spreading to more and more colonies in the city. Residents complain that despite several pleas, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials are citing technical and operational reasons for the delays.
Water supply problems are happening every alternate week in many areas while the supply timings are not maintained in under-served areas.
Several colonies in Old Alwal, where ground water levels have plunged, are in dire need of regular water supply.
Srinivas Munagapati, general secretary of Om Sri Sai Nagar Colony, said that the locals have been facing hardships for over a month now. It worsened last week. We are getting water once every three days and at low pressure for just 45 minutes.”
Same is the case in Surya Nagar in the area, where the supply is inadequate while the groundwater is next to nothing.
“We will inspect the area and try to resolve the issue immediately. Of late, there have been operational difficulties due to leakage of water in the area,” explained G. Ramesh, manager, operations and maintenance, HMWS&SB, Old Alwal.
Similar problems prevail in Ganga Nagar in Jiyaguda, Zeba Bagh in Asif Nagar, and Deluxe Colony at Tolichowki.
“There has been no water supply for four days and even the timings are not regular. We are forced to wait the entire night for water,” complained K. Raghuvardhan of Jiyaguda. Even water tankers are taking two to five days to arrive despite the emergency.
