Hyderabad: About 1,700 undertrial prisoners lodged at the Cherlapally central prison are counselled at regular intervals if they are found to be undergoing depression.

Officials shared that inmates are counselled to prevent them from taking extreme steps.

Ramavath Chander (21), was lodged at the central prison on Saturday evening after being arrested by Hayathnagar police on charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and also sexually harassing a minor girl.

He was not counselled as the next day was a holiday and sessions were not conducted that day. Prison superintendent M.R. Bhaskar said, “All prisoners are counselled. The staff  keep a tab on prisoners who show signs of anxiety and depression.”
