VIJAYAWADA: With a new flyover set to pass over burial grounds at  Bhavanipuram in Vijayawada city, relatives of the dead have begun digging up graves and shifting the remains.

Engineers identified that two rows of graves at the burial ground must be removed for construction of the flyover which connects Durga Temple and Benz Circle.

The family members of deceased Dasari Angel, who died two years ago, have accordingly shifted his grave from the existing place to another place at the burial ground. The government did not provide an alternative place but warned that they would remove the graves on Saturday with machi-nes, Mr D. Uday Kiran, son of the deceased, Angel, said.

He said that the government, constituted committee conducted a careless and casual survey to identify family members of the dead. He said that the committee did not even mention his mother’s name in the list and said the grave was unidentified.

Vijayawada urban tahsildar R. Siva Rao released a notice on February 4 stating that the committee that was entrusted with the responsibility of finding the kith and kin of the dead could neither gather the names nor trace the details of the deceased persons.

Mr Rao informed that they are going to remove the graves on Saturday. He said that Father Iyam Jayraj coordinated with the kith and kin and family members of the dead.
