Kochi: A day after the regional monitoring committee (south) of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the Brahmapuram solid waste treatment plant, its chairperson P. Jyothimani on Friday clarified there was still scope for major improvement.

“…We have not given a clean chit to the corporation over the Brahmapuram issue. Several things have to be done at the plant. The corporation has taken steps for effective plant functioning and it has to further improve and reach the zero waste concept,” Jyothimani told reporters after the 5th review meeting held here.
He made it clear that the NGT will keep a constant vigil over the Kochi corporation on solid waste management.

“The corporation should ensure that the wastes are segregated at individual collection points itself. Also the waste should be transported to the plant only in covered vehicles,” he said.
