Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has launched a programme ‘Renaissance, Constitution and Child Rights' to create awareness on Renaissance.

As part of the programme jointly organised by General Education Department and the PRD, exhibitions on the theme of history, documentary screening, lectures, discussions on history, reality show and popularisation of literature related to renaissance will be conducted in schools.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the programme on Monday at Cotton Hill School here. The decision to conduct the programme comes close on the heels of the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s announcement that the state government would add more portions on the renaissance leaders in the curriculum.

Mr Vijayan had made this announcement while speaking at the weekly television programmes being aired on various television channels. The programme which was recorded on Wednesday will be telecast on Sunday.

The success of the 82nd anniversary celebrations of ‘Temple Entry Proclamation’ also prompted the government to launch the new one. As part of the programme, a book will also be launched for students consisting of history of renaissance in Kerala and values of Constitution.

The idea was to create awareness among the students on various rights in the wake of the controversy over the entry of women to Sabarimala. It may be recalled that education to the masses was also a contribution of renaissance .Sree Narayana Guru insisted that we should enlighten ourselves with education as he was quite sure that it was the only means for social progress. It is in the Renaissance period that social reformers and the reformation movements in Kerala razed down the road blocks that prevented popularisation of education. This was also the reason for coming up with such a programme.
