Dakshina Kannada: Two Mangaluru beaches in race for blue flag certification

Mangaluru: Aiming for blue flag certification to two of its beaches, the Dakshina Kannada district administration has sent a proposal to the government to develop them.

Of the ten Indian beaches that have received blue flag certification, two (Kasarakod beach in Uttara Kannada and Padubidri beach in Udupi district) are from Karnataka. Dakshina Kannada district does not have any Blue flag beach.

However, the district is putting up its effort to get the certification to Idya beach and Tanir Bavi beach.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. K V Rajendra told reporters that the proposal to develop the two beaches has been sent to the government.

The district is also planning to open government surfing schools in Tanir Bavi and Sasihithlu.

Meanwhile, the Dakshina Kannada district Tourism Development Committee has chalked out plans to hold Weekend Street Festivals in Mangaluru once the Covid cases come under control.

The weekend street festival is proposed to be held in the Maidan road between Clock Tower Circle and A B Shetty Circle in Mangaluru City.

The street is being developed under the Smart City Project.

The festivals are likely to provide a platform to the local artists and small businessmen in addition to entertainment to the people.
