HDMA plans Necklace road sports arena

Hyderabad: Necklace Road abutting Hussainsagar will get a sports-cum-leisure entertainment arena, if the plan of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority fructifies.

The arena has been planned on the 1.8-acre site beside Sanjeevaiah Park and P.V. Narasimha Rao Gyan Bhoomi. The site earlier housed a private  tennis coaching centre whose lease ran out some time back. The HMDA has decided to float a new tender to build the arena with the inclusion of more sports.

The arena is proposed to include a mini cricket ground, badminton courts, health and fitness centre with facilities a swimming pool, yoga and aerobics etc, a court for playing Futsal (five-a-side football game), food court with a sports theme and an event square or an open air convention space. There is also a choice for a mini-theatre, bowling alley, laser and virtual reality games zone.

According to officials, HMDA would be leasing the land and a private firm would be tasked with the responsibility of setting up the area The firm would be told not to build only temporary structures.

The contract period is likely to be five years and the minimum rent being quoted is Rs 60 lakh per annum.
