TIRUPATI: The South Central Railway (SCR) added yet another feather to its cap by commissioning a new rail flyover between Gudur and Manubolu railway stations in Vijayawada division on Friday.

This rail flyover, or Rail over Rail, built by the Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) as part of the third line works stretches a distance of 2.2km. It is the longest and the seventh flyover in the zone. The previous longest rail flyover on the zone stretched 40 metres.

According to SCR, the 2.2km electrified railway flyover has been completed within two years. It consists of pre-stressed concrete and composite girders, which have inherent high torsional resistance and lower overall maintenance costs.

This single line Rail Flyover between Gudur – Manubolu has been designed to handle traffic in both directions.

SCR general manager Arun Jain complimented the officers and staff for constructing a rail flyover with state-of-the-art technology. He said this will help in drastically reducing the waiting period of trains while approaching the busy Gudur station.

The Gudur railway station, located in the busy grand trunk route, is an important interchange point between SCR and Southern Railway, handling all types of train movements. The new rail flyover will help ease the train movements in this saturated section.

The commissioning of the rail flyover will facilitate simultaneous trains movement in the Vijayawada, Renigunta, Chennai sectors  through the Gudur station.

The simultaneous reception and dispatch facilitated by the flyover will eliminate detentions on account of cross-movements, improve average speed of the trains and enhance operational efficiency of the train movements in the section.
