Vijayawada: CCTV cameras for sanitation

Vijayawada: Garbage lifting and sanitation works would be monitored through live CCTV cameras by civic officials in all municipalities and corporations. The department of municipal administration has taken up a pilot project in Vijayawada city. A system that was tested successfully during Krishna Pushkaralu to monitor cleanliness in various Pushkara Ghats is now going to spread across the city.

Once the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation successfully completes its testing period, the same kind of monitoring arrangements will be made across the state. Meanwhile, civic bodies were advised to work on the modalities and detailed proposals according to their local requirements. The main idea of implementing this system is to monitor day-to-day sanitation works in the municipalities.

Not only installing CCTV cameras and creating a local control room, all the control rooms will be connected to a state command and control centre. The makeshift command and control centre established to integrate and process the live feed coming from various Pushkara Ghats is now being turned into a permanent state command control centre. As the basic prototype is already in hand and is tested successfully during Pushka-ralu, the government is now going on for a state-level monitoring system.

The real-time monitoring system was used by nine departments during Pushkaralu for their respective purposes. The command and control centre was a big success in Pushkaralu, says minister for municipal administration P. Narayana. “We were able to keep the ghats clean and tidy with the help of the real-time monitoring system. Now we are taking this system a step ahead by implementing it in all municipalities to monitor the sanitation and garbage removal programmes,” he added. The same system will be shared by various departments for their purposes. The police and law-enforcing agencies will get benefited from this integrated command and control centre.
