Coimbatore: Two arrested for stabbing motorist

Victim had refused to give money which assailant asked for alcohol.

Coimbatore: Two persons were held on Wednesday for stabbing a motorist who refused to give them money for buying alcohol.

According to police, Vijaya Kumar (21), resident of Sanganoor, works in a private firm. Along with his brother Karthikeyan, he was on his way to meet a friend. While they were nearing the public toilet on Ponnaiyar street, two persons blocked his moped and demanded money for alcohol at knife point. Vijaya Kumar refused, and after a heated quarrel, the two stabbed him with the knife on his neck, and escaped from the spot.

On hearing Vijaya Kumar scream, motorists passing through the stretch rescued him and rushed him to a private hospital in the same area. On receiving information from hospital staff, Saravanampatti police rushed to the hospital. Based on a complaint lodged by Vijaya Kumar, police launched a search and took the duo into custody.

They were identified as Karan Kumar (22) from Kasthuri Nagar, who is involved in various criminal activities including attempt to murder cases, and robbing and Vijaya Kumar (22) from Ganapathy.

During investigation, they confessed to having stabbed Vijaya Kumar. They were produced in court and imprisoned in the Coimbatore Central prison.
