ALAPPUZHA: Tripura Chief Minister  Biplab Kumar Deb has claimed that the BJP will rewrite history in the Chengannur by-election.  "Pinarayi Vijayan will meet the fate of Manik Sarkar in Tripura and the people of Kerala will dump the Communists into the Arabian sea," Mr Deb said addressing an election rally held at Mannar on Thursday in support of NDA candidate P.S. Sreedharan Pillai.

"Kerala has many similarities with Tripura-- geography, culture, education and food habits.  The only difference is that Tripura is being ruled by the BJP and Kerala by the Communists. The people must realise the development policies of the  Modi government and support it. The LDF and the UDF have the same policies. They joined hands in Karnataka though they are fighting here. The voters must understand their adjustment politics and reject them," he said.

"In Tripura we could win  44 seats and most of them were wrested from the CPM.  The residents there were scared of the CPM during the campaign and the Communists mocked at me saying I was a 'child.' The Communists never thought the people would vote for us," he said.  The Communists have failed to industrialise the state and hence Malayalis have to go out in search of jobs, he said and added that the BJP was focussing on setting up industrial hubs to create more jobs.

Mr Deb also criticised Mr Pinarayi Vijayan for not visiting the family members of Sreejith who was killed in police custody at Varappuzha. "Vijayan is the disciple of  Manik Sarkar, former chief minister,  who refused to visit the house of a young Navalika  woman who was raped and killed. They were stopped by their party," he said. Earlier, Mr Deb released the BJP manifesto at a function held at a hotel. He also conducted a road show at Chengannur.
