State government committed to ST welfare: KTR

HYDERABAD: The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was committed to the development of the Scheduled Tribes communities, industries minister K.T. Rama Rao said.

Rama Rao on Monday distributed cheques to 24 entrepreneurs from the ST communities who have set up their own units under the CM’s ST Entrepreneurship and Innovation Scheme (CMSTEI), at Banjara Bhavan in Banjara Hills.

Each year, 100 tribals are transformed into entrepreneurs with the support of the state government under this scheme, he stated ."The government is committed to supporting and encouraging STs, as well as unearthing their talent," Rao remarked.

The Indian School of Business (ISB-Hyderabad) is providing training to 100 STs from some of Telangana's most backward tribes, including Andh, Chenchu, Pardhan, Koya, Thoti, and Yerukula, as part of CMSTEI, he said.

The government is extending financial support to beneficiaries under which the bank linkage component will be 55 per cent, the subsidy component will be 35 per cent and the beneficiary component will be 10 per cent, he informed.

The scheme, which was launched five years ago, has already helped 300 STs in becoming entrepreneurs, and another 200 STs are undergoing training, he claimed.
