Vijayawada: Telugu Desam candidates who contested from Guntur East and West Assembly constituencies,  Md Naseer and Maddali Giridhar, complained that four CCTV cameras did not work at the strongrooms on the Acharya Nagarjuna University campus.

The EVMs were kept in strongrooms  and CCTV cameras were installed for continuous vigil.

They said that the poll officials gave a connection to the mobile phones of the candidates to check if the EVMs were safely kept.

The TD candidates said that the officials accepted to deploy one person on behalf of the candidates outside the strongrooms and that their representative told them about the interruption in the vigil of the strongrooms by the CC cameras on Tuesday night.

They said that they rushed to ANU immediately after being informed by their representative and lodged a complaint with the officials.

They demanded that the officials make foolproof arrangements, like ensuring round-the-clock surveillance by cameras.

The two candidates contacted Returning Officer A.V.N.S. Murthy on phone and informed him about the malfunctioning of CCTV cameras but
that he told them he had no information about it.

They even contacted the police asking them to intervene into the issue. Meanwhile, the technicians reached the spot following directions from the collectorate and repaired the cameras.

The officials informed that power supply to the strongroom got disrupted and so the CCTV cameras did not function for an hour. They assured the candidates of providing uninterrupted power supply to strongrooms.
