CHENNAI: Prasanth Ganesh Bhoge, a 40-year-old from Maskawar of Jalgaon District, Maharashtra, is all set to return home, having conquered the life threatening condition he had developed around five years ago.

Bhoge had arrived at SIMS Hospital, Chennai, after being denied a redo surgery at Mumbai. In 2010, his aorta had burst, which resulted in the reduction of blood supply to the rest of his body.

The emergency surgery that he underwent in Mumbai saw the replacement of only the torn area and a warning that he would require another major surgery later.

Five years later, he saw himself in Chennai, following reference from a doctor in Mumbai. “Dr Gopalamurugan and team were very encouraging after they heard about the issue, unlike the response we got back in Mumbai,” said Prerna Prasanth Bhoge, a relieved wife of Prasanth.

“Aneurysm is a very dangerous condition which can kill a person in a matter of hours if not catered to by an experienced surgeon immediately,” said Dr A.B. Gopalamurugan, Senior inyerventional cardiologist, who was part of the Aortic team that operated on him.

“In the Western countries, a readymade graft is used for the procedure. It is quite expensive and not yet available in India, said Dr. Gopalamurugan,  adding, “the team at SIMS undertook the surgery-a first in India-with a modified technique and with an available graft, which proved cost effective. “

The surgery, which was performed in a high tech operation theatre, (with high quality x-ray equipment available), proved successful. “The doctors were very encouraging and they took such good care of me. They gave me a new life,” said the father of two children.
