Cops raid Mangaluru prison, recover phones, knives

Giving details about the operation, Mr Patil said that three knives and six mobile phones were seized.

Though the top leaders of the CPM in the district resisted the move for the raid, the DCP took a stand that she would conduct the raid. Even top cops had intervened, without any result.

Mangaluru: In an early morning operation on Sunday led by Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil, six mobile phones and three knives were seized from the district prison on Sunday.

Mr Patil took charge as the police chief two days ago.  

The police team that included two DCPs,  three ACPs, inspectors and other personnel entered the prison at 8 am on Sunday and conducted the search inside it.

Giving details about the operation, Mr Patil said that three knives and six mobile phones were seized.

A case has been booked at Barke Police Station.

“We have got mobile phones and the call records of these mobiles will be tracked during investigation,” the Commissioner told reporters.  If needed, the police would shift some inmates to other prisons.

Two days ago, security personnel in the prison were assaulted by a group of inmates.

Following this incident, the police conducted the raid and searched the prison on Sunday.
