Hyderabad : Traffic, Metro staff to wear A/C helmets
The founders of the start up were trained by TASK and RICH, both flagship initiatives of the Telangana government.
Hyderabad: Hyderabad traffic police and Hyderabad Metro Rail employees would soon be wearing air-conditioned helmets manufactured by start up Jarsh Innovations.
On the sidelines of BioAsia, co-founder of Kausthub Kaundinya gifted an air-conditioned helmet to IT minister K.T. Rama Rao and announced that they were giving 20 ISI certified helmets to traffic and metro authorities to test them for free.
Alumni of VNR Vignan Jyothi Engineering College Kausthub, Anand Kumar and Sreekanth Kommula, were trained under a technology entrepreneurship programme by the Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK), followed by which through Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) they set up a start up incubated at ISB-Hyderabad, both flagship initiatives of Telangana government.
“We are giving back to the government for nurturing us through RICH and TASK. Indian Navy, Tata group and Sumana Cements have purchased helmets from us for testing at their sites,” they said. The startup which was founded in Septe-mber 2016, went ahead with pilot sales of about 40 units in March 2017.
The helmet maintain a temperature of 22 to 30 degree celsius and had been tested up to 65 degrees.
“We have designed this helmet in consultation with skin specialists and doctors. The head is at higher temperature than the body, so the helmet is designed in such a way that it provides uniform cooling,” they said.
The helmet had unbreakable UV glass and a custom-made lithium ion battery similar to the one used in Telsa cars. “The battery can be charged like charging a mobile phone. There are two designs, one which can cool continuously for two hours and the other provides cooling for eight hours,” said Kausthub.
The helmets were currently priced at '5,500 and were available only for business to procure.
