TenderSure work in progress on Museum Cross Road

Bengaluru: Dug up roads, piling up of huge pipes, roaring earth movers, pile up of sand and stones and thick blanket of dust sums up the condition of Museum Cross road, which was hitherto one of the busiest roads.

Commuting on Museum Cross road has been an Herculean task not just for pedestrians even for motorists as the BBMP has taken up TenderSure work on the road.

Though after a long wait the Church Street was thrown open for citizens of Bengaluru, commuters feel the same fate awaits the connecting Museum Road. It would take at least three more months, they rued.

The BBMP has taken up Museum Cross road stretching from Museum Road to M.G. Road near Anil Kumble Circle. The project stretching 370 metres would cost Rs 4.5 crore. Once the project is completed it would be a delight to commute, feel traders and regular users.

Abhijit Baruah, who frequents the area, said he no longer is able to relish his favourite dosa chicken outside the Empire Restaurant, as the place is always engulfed with dust.  Though the Church Street has been looking good, it would look better once the work on Museaum Cross Road is completed. BBMP sources said that as part of the TenderSure project, the work on shifting of utilities is currently on. BWSSB pipes, storm water drain and cables are being moved. Bescom has agreed to shift its line and transformers. Traffic restrictions are also in place. The work is expected to be completed in three months, provided utilities are shifted on time. In addition, white topping will be done and it requires at least 28 days for curing for the longevity of the road. Since ducts are laid, it prevents unnecessary road cutting and quality of the road improves, sources said.  A local trader said that on completion of the project the road will acquire a classic look and be a major attraction for pedestrians as well as motorists. The traffic police have been helpful in clearing traffic. Commuters must cooperate to enable unhindered work, the trader felt. On completion, the road will facilitate two-way traffic and will also have some greenery on either side.
