Hyderabad: Young voters will decide the fate of contesting candidates as more than 45 per cent of the voters in the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are in the 20-35 age group.

The corporation has decided to take up special awareness programmes in each assembly constituency.

Of the 39,60,706 voters in the city, 12,45,326 are 30 to 39 years years old, and 9,60,117 between 20 and 29.

Another 40,173 voters fall in the 18-19 age group, 7,83,068 in the 40-49, 4,82,081 in the 50-59, 2,82,985 voters in the 60-69, 1,25,880 in the 70-79 and 41,076 in the 80 plus age group.

Given the low voting percentage in the city historically, a GHMC official appealed to citizens not to consider polling day as a holiday and go out and vote.
