Kozhikode: It is a dream trip for 20 students of Kuttichira Government Higher Secondary School here who will visit the Indian Space Research Organisation, Science and Technology Museum and National Centre for Earth and Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. This is the fulfilment of a promise given by the then  minister M.K. Muneer who visited the school on September 24, 2015.  He was impressed by the science magazine  titled ‘Shubham, Mangalam, Mangalyaan’ that  they had brought out  for their ‘Prithvi Club’ On the first  anniversary of Mangalyaan. (The Mangalyaan satellite launched by ISRO completed  one year of its life around Mars on September 24, 2015).

The magazine was funded by ‘Melody’-the  comprehensive education programme of  Kozhikode  south.  Mr Muneer wrote down his promise on the magazine - ‘Let’s go to ISRO.’

On Wednesday, 11 Plus-Two students and nine Plus-One students of the school left for Thiruvananthapuram from Kozhikode railway station  by Maveli Express accompanied by three  teachers.  They'll be back on Friday  morning, said   Mr V. Koyatty, teacher.

Mr Muneer, Kozhikode south MLA, told reporters here that  the students from other schools in his constituency would also be sent on such trips in the future.

‘Melody’ was planned in the schools in the constituency supported by the Faisal and Shabana Foundation. In the first phase, three schools have been selected  for the programme.  The Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Meenchanda, has been granted  '3 crore from the MLA fund and the asset development fund.

The Government Ganapathi Higher Secondary School was given  '4 crore  and the Government Model Higher Secondary School '1 crore from the   asset development fund.
