ANANTAPUR: An 80-year-old woman died after she was attacked by pigs at Brahmamgari Matham in Annamayya district on Friday.

Siddamma was sleeping outside her house when she was attacked by pigs. “An eye of the woman was completely chewed by the pigs while her fingers along with the palms of her hands were bitten,” a report said.

People in the vicinity and her family members rushed to the spot to save the woman. She was taken to a local hospital at Brahmamgari Matham. She died while under treatment.

The locals of Brahamgari Matham vent their anger at  the local civic authorities over their failure to control the sway of pigs in the temple town.

They said they had given representations to the gram panchayat authorities repeatedly, urging them to control pigs in the temple town, but no action was initiated.

Large numbers of devotees arrive for darshan of Sri Veerabrahmendra Swamy there every day but no minimum security steps have been put in place so far.
