GHMC for vigilance probe

Hyderabad: Citing discrepancies in sanitation wing, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had ordered vigilance probe. It has come to the notice of corporation that there was a variation in number of workers working and salaries paid. GHMC Additional Commissioner Shruti Ojha asked vigilance wing to conduct thorough enquire by verifying circle wise salaries paid and number to working days.

The variation came to light when the salary particulars compared with Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System. Highly placed sources as many as 21 workers should report to each sanitary field assistant (SFA). They will be further divided into three groups (seven in each group). The corporation has been paying Rs 16,000 for each sanitation worker (including Employees' Provident Fund).

The change from manual to AEBAS has helped corporation to remove duplicate names and registering fake attendance, where SFAs have manipulated the attendance data and looted the GHMC by marking them present even when they were absent. The civic body has managed to save Rs 60 crore during one year.

However, the corporation could not get rid of the fake members, who would be not seen on the ground working but have enrolled in AEBAS. The SFAs would withdraw their salaries and would share it 50:50 ratio. Sources said if these irregularities are curbed, the corporation would save more than Rs 50 crore.
